Roy Joiner ... A rodeo champion.
Roy Joiner is a native of Loranger, Louisiana. Roy was introduced to the
sport of rodeo in 1954 by Jim Dyer. He started his rodeo career riding bulls and
bareback bronc horses. In 1956, he met Jr Meeks who started him on his long career as a steer wrestler.
Roy won the Tri-State Rodeo Association Steer Wrestling Championship 7 times in his rodeo career.
He also took honors as the Louisiana Rodeo Cowboys Association Steer Wrestling Champion 9 times.
Roy won the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Associations Southeastern Circuit finals in 1985. He holds 5 arena
records in Steer Wrestling that still stand today. He recorded a time of 2.4 seconds, which is the
fastest time to throw a steer in the Tri-State Rodeo Association. He also holds the record for
the fastest steer thrown in the International Rodeo Association with 2.3 seconds. Roy is a PRCA gold cardholder.
He retired from rodeo in 1986.
